06/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – Europe such as it is, with the ambitions it cherishes, cannot live within the current straitjacket of its budgetary organisation, the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, told the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday 6 February. In its proposals on the multiannual financial framework post-2020 expected for Tuesday 23 May, the Commission will call for the EU budget to be increased, but not for it to be unlimited, he added. Juncker added that real savings, but savings that makes sense, would have to be made in certain areas. “The cohesion policy and the CAP will have to be reduced in terms of figures. But I object to this stupid, short-sighted and ill-thought-out desire to mount an attack on the cohesion policy and the CAP”. (MB)
