06/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – Bitcoin resides in an unregulated area and should be considered highly risky assets, the President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Mario Draghi, told a plenary session of the European Parliament on Monday 5 February. He advised banks to therefore measure the risks of these digital currencies within their portfolios. Bitcoin, the value of which has fallen sharply since December, has been the subject of renewed attention at EU level with the recent creation, by the European Commission, of an observatory (see EUROPE 11952), alongside Franco-German work being carried out within the framework of the 'Finance G20' (see EUROPE 11943).
