12/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 12 January, MEPs who made a trip to study the rule of law in Malta following the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia published their report (see EUROPE 11905). According to the European Parliament's Greens/EFA Group, the report gives details of a series of shortfalls noted on the rule of law, and calls for an active response from the EU under the so-called Article 7 procedure of the Treaty. "The European Commission should investigate our findings seriously. For the Maltese government, it is now high time to finally face serious consequences after the Panama Papers and the murder of Daphne Galizia. Members of government with doubtful offshore accounts should be removed from office", says German ecologist Sven Giegold. The report can be consulted at: http://bit.ly/malta-report. (MB)
