Fourth meeting of Southern Gas Corridor advisory council in Baku on 15 February

In Baku (Azerbaijan) on Monday 15 February the fourth meeting of the advisory council for the southern gas corridor will be held. This has been announced by the Azeri energy minister on Thursday 11 January.

The Azeri government has sent invitations to the competent ministers of counties involved in the project (Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Albania and Bulgaria), to the vice-president of the European Commission with responsibility for Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič, and interested international financial organisations.

The United States has announced that it will be attending via its interim special envoy and coordinator of international energy issues, Sue Saarnio.

The Southern Gas Corridor project aims to transport gas from the Shah Deniz-2 deposits in Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea to the European market via Georgia and Turkey.

It is based on three related infrastructure projects: the Southern Caucasus gas pipeline (SCP) from Shah Deniz-2 to the Turkish border via Azerbaijan and Georgia; the Transanatolian gas pipeline (TANAP) that will cross Turkey and the Transadriatic gas pipeline (TAP), which will transport Azeri gas from Turkey to Italy via Greece and Albania.  (Original version in French by Emmanuel Hagry)
