12/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – At the launch of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council in Sofia on Friday 12 January (see other article), European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker repeated that the place of Bulgaria and Romania was in the Schengen area of free movement of people. And although Bulgaria has problems with corruption (Ed: the reason given by some countries for refusing Bulgaria's entry to the Schengen area), it is not alone in the EU. "There are countries that have corruption problems that are less spoken about", Juncker said. The Netherlands is among the countries that are reluctant about enlargement of the Schengen area. Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boïko Borissov stated that he would host his Dutch counterpart, Mark Rutte, on Tuesday 6 February and would show him that the Bulgarian border is "the best protected in the EU".
