05/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – In two opinions, published on 30 November and 8 December 2017 respectively, the committee on industry, research and energy (ITRE) (see http://bit.ly/2qxNcYq ) and the committee on economic and monetary affairs (ECON) (see http://bit.ly/2qs4DJL ), call upon the committee on the internal market and consumer protection (IMCO) to propose to reject the European Commission's proposal to establish an electronic 'services' card. Both committees consider that the proposal carries a risk, amongst other things, of compromising the social dimension of the internal market and the fight against fraud, and takes insufficient account of the concerns of the member states. At the Council, the proposal is also reported to be struggling, according to a note from the French authorities of which EUROPE has obtained a copy, considering it “unlikely” that the Council will adopt it in the “short or medium term” (see EUROPE 11910).
