OLAF submits investigation report on Stork Nest affair

04/01/2018 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 28 December, OLAF, the European Anti-Fraud Office, passed the report on its investigation into European subsidies to the agrifood giant Agrofert to the Czech Finance Ministry. OLAF investigated whether subsidies totalling €50 million had been received fraudulently by Agrofert for the construction of a recreation complex known by the name of Stork Nest. Eleven people were implicated in this affair, including current Czech prime minister and MP Andrej Babiš who was the owner of the establishment. Calls have been made for his parliamentary immunity to be lifted. On Wednesday 3 January, European Commission spokesperson Mina Andreeva confirmed that the Commission was examining the report but said that it did not intend to publish it. With many Czech MPs and MEPs calling for publication, it will, therefore, be for the Czech authorities and OLAF to decide on how to proceed.  (MF)
