On Friday 15 December, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security policy, Federica Mogherini, and the Commissioner for Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, welcomed the adoption earlier that day of the reform of customs law in Bosnia & Herzegovina. This adoption is expected to unlock funding from the IMF.
“The adoption by the House of Representatives of amendments to the set of excise laws this morning is an important achievement. This decision will give a renewed impetus to the reforms that are necessary to secure the long-term financial stability of the country”, they said in a joint press release, congratulating the members of the two houses of the Parliament on this difficult short-term measure. The EU and international financial institutions will closely monitor the implementation of the law, they warned.
Mogherini and Hahn said that the move would allow the country to “get to work on building a modern highway and road infrastructure, with an important support of international partners, including the EU. This in turn will bring sorely needed investments and jobs and will also give an important boost to growth, they added”. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
