11/12/2017 (Agence Europe) – European Union fisheries ministers meeting in Brussels on Monday 11 December formally adopted the regulation establishing exactly the level of fishing opportunities proposed by the European Commission for sprat and turbot in the Black Sea in 2018 (see EUROPE 11909). The regulation affects only Bulgaria and Romania, which share the stocks in these waters with Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia and Russia. The total allowable catch (TAC) for sprat has been set at 11,475 tonnes, as in the last few years, with 70% for Bulgaria and 30% for Romania. The turbot TAC for 2018 and 2019 remains at the same level as the last two years: 114 tonnes shared equally between the two countries.
