28/11/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament’s environment committee gave the go-ahead on Tuesday 28 November to conclusion, on behalf of the EU, of the provisional agreement linking the EU emissions trading scheme (ETS), a market-based, cost-effective instrument designed to tackle climate change, and the corresponding Swiss scheme. In following the directions of rapporteur Christofer Fjellner (EPP, Sweden), the committee voted overwhelmingly (59 to 3) in favour of signing the agreement, which requires European Parliament assent (see EUROPE 11902). Parliament will vote in the December plenary session (11-14 December) in Strasbourg. (AN)
