20/11/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 20 November, the Council of the EU definitively adopted the regulation for an entry-exit system and the regulation amending the Schengen border code in relation to the entry-exit system, it announced in a press release. Initially proposed in 2013, then revised in 2016, the entry-exit system will register entry, exit and refusal of entry information of third country nationals crossing the external borders of the Schengen area. The system will help to reduce border check delays by automatically calculating the authorised stay of each traveller, ensure systematic and reliable identification of overstayers and strengthen internal security and the fight against terrorism by allowing law enforcement authorities access to travel history records. The system should be operational by 2020. (SP)
