20/11/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 20 November, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stressed to Cambodia's Foreign Minister Sokhonn Prak that "the European Union's development cooperation and trade preferences are reliant on the country's respect for fundamental human rights and democratic principles". Cambodia benefits from the Everything but Arms programme. Mogherini thus called for the "significant steps away from the path of pluralism and democracy (...) such as the continued detention of the opposition leader, Kem Sokha and the dissolution of the Cambodian National Rescue Party", (see EUROPE 1190) to "be swiftly reversed", the European External Action Service stated in a press release. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the EU-Asia summit in Burma/Myanmar. (CG)
