European Parliament and Council to seek agreement on 2018 EU budget

On Friday 17 November, the member states and MEPs will attempt to reach an agreement on the draft EU budget, in the framework of a conciliation committee.

Unsurprisingly, the positions of the Council of the EU and of the Parliament over the budget continue to differ. A diplomat from a member state described the Council's position as “realistic” and that of the MEPs as “ambitious”, on Thursday 16 November.
