13/11/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 13 November, the European foreign affairs ministers officially removed the Fuerzas armadas revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) from the EU list of terrorist organisations, as the former guerrilla movement has become a political movement, having laid down its arms in line with the peace agreement signed with the Colombian government in August 2016 (see EUROPE 11609). This decision unfreezes funds belonging to FARC in the EU, which may have been frozen. In September 2016, the Council of the EU suspended the restrictive measures in place against FARC since 2002 (see EUROPE 11633). The leader of FARC will stand in the presidential elections in Colombia, scheduled for May 2018. (MB)
