Greenhouse gas emissions in the EU fell slightly, by 0.7%, in 2016 on the 2015 levels, according to flash estimates from the European Environment Agency (EEA) published on Tuesday 7 November, and the EU is well-placed to collectively meeting its climate target for 2020 (-20% compared with 1990), since the figures show that emissions last year were 23% below the 1990 levels.
