25/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – Ahead of the presentation of its strategy on plastics this autumn, the European Commission is hosting a stakeholder conference in Brussels on Tuesday 26 September, to discuss the challenges and opportunities of plastics in a circular economy creating jobs and growth and supporting the environment. Representatives of industry and civil society will be invited to discuss ways of reducing the environmental impact of the plastics industry, from designing sustainable and recycled products, removing dangerous substances, the traceability of these materials, alternative raw materials and biodegradability, all the way through to plastic waste, the main source of pollution in the marine environment. The long-awaited strategy on plastics announced by Environment Commissioner Karmenu Vella was recently described by Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker as an integral part of the EU's industrial strategy.
