05/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 4 September, Home Affairs Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos told the committee on civil liberties (LIBE) of the European Parliament that he was to ask the Council for a new mandate to seek a new PNR agreement with Canada on the transfer of air passenger data for the purposes of the fight against terror that “complies with the judgment of the Court” of Justice of the EU. This request will be made once the Commission has dissected this judgment, which was returned at the end of July (see EUROPE 11837). The Court found that in its current state, the draft PNR agreement between the EU and Canada was incompatible with certain requirements under the fundamental rights. The MEPs approached the court before taking position on this draft agreement, which was signed in 2014 (see EUROPE 11109). (SP)
