Emmanuel Macron says Poland sidelining itself from Europe's history, present and future

25/08/2017 (Agence Europe)During his visit to Bulgaria on Friday 25 August, France's President Emmanuel Macron stated in Varna that Poland had today decided to "go against European interests on numerous subjects".  He said that Europe had been created "on values, a relationship with democracy and public freedoms that Poland is today breaking". Macron also spoke about the Polish government's position on the review of the posted workers directive, describing the intervention of Poland's Prime Minister Beata Szydlo the previous day as a "new error".  Szydlo had said she did not want to change position on this in order to defend "the interests of Polish workers", and on Friday she criticised Macron for his arrogance (see EUROPE 11847).  Macron took advantage of this to hail the position of Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev, who a few seconds earlier had expressed his desire to fight social dumping.  (LT)
