25/08/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 25 August, the EU delegation in Kosovo expressed the EU's concern about the selection process for the presidents of the supreme court and court of appeals in Kosovo. "The EU regrettably notes that the selection of the presidents (...) was not preceded by a substantive discussion on the candidates' suitability for the position, while the justification of the (...) selection decisions lacks sufficient reasoning", the delegation stated in a press release. The EU worked with the Kosovo judicial council to advance the selection procedure. The delegation stated that together with the EULEX mission it would continue to follow the selection processes closely. It added that an "independent, transparent, accountable and efficient judiciary free from political interference" is a key precondition for Kosovo’s advancement on the European path. (CG)
