On Thursday 13 July, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) signed an agreement on mutual aircraft certification.
This agreement means that the two authorities are now committed to validating and accepting certification from their respective counterpart in terms of aircraft manufacture and component parts. The operators will also have Design Organisation Approval (DOA) provided by one or other of the authorities and will no longer need to provide two certificates to exert their activities in Singapore and the European Union.
The EASA press release published on Tuesday 18 July explained that the numbers of inspections would also be reduced, “resulting in time and cost savings for the aviation industry on both sides".
Signed as part of the Memorandum of Understanding concluded between the two organisations in February 2012, the agreement also seeks to facilitate exchanges of practices and information about safety between the two authorities, as well as enhance cooperation and provide the foundations for future collaboration.
