EU calls again for prosecution of those who shot down flight MH17

On behalf of the EU, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini has called again for those responsible for the crash of flight MH17 to be held accountable and brought to justice.  The flight was shot down over eastern Ukraine on 17 July 2014 and had 298 people, mostly Dutch, on board.

"We expect all the states that are in a position to assist the investigation and prosecution of those responsible to do so", Mogherini said in a statement from the 28 EU member states.  "It is crucial that the investigators can complete their work, independently and thoroughly", she added, reiterating the support of the EU and its member states for the work of the joint investigation team, and welcoming important progress made over the last year.

"We welcome the steps taken by the countries involved to come to an effective prosecution, as well as their decision to opt for the Dutch national justice system embedded in international cooperation", Mogherini said, stating that this was an important step towards bringing those responsible for downing flight MH17 to justice.  (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
