17/07/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 17 July, the Council of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers announced that, “Over the forthcoming year, the EU’s first priority will be to support, strengthen and reform the United Nations and rules based global order”. In the 17-page draft highlighting the priorities of the EU, UN and the 72nd UN General Assembly (UNGA) (September 2017 – September 2018), which they adopted, ministers explained that the EU would also strive to, “maintain the political dynamic in favour of reforms and make the UN more responsive at all levels and in both the political and operational arena”. The Council points out, “the United Nations will remain key to our global engagement” and adds that it will work towards developing “a solid partnership between EU and UN”. (CG)
