11/07/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 11 July, the European Parliament’s transport committee strongly approved the compromise reached between European Parliament representatives and those from the former Maltese Presidency of the Council on 14 and 15 June last (see EUROPE 11809). These three texts (see EUROPE 11566) focus on: - the registration of people travelling on passenger boats; safety rules and standards for passenger boats and; - the inspection of roll on roll off ferries and high-speed passenger vessels. MEPs also approved a compromise obtained on 27 June on the recognition of professional qualifications in the domain of inland river transport (see EUROPE 11817) based on a Commission proposal of 18 February 2016 (see EUROPE 11494).
