30/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – In a press release issued on Thursday 29 June, the Airlines for Europe organisation calls for the introduction of a ‘single till’ system in all European airports. The European Commission is currently evaluating EU Directive 2009/12/EC on airport charges. The single till system makes it compulsory to deduct revenue from non-aviation activities such as catering from airport income before calculating the airport fee to be paid by consumers (which doesn’t happen using the double-till system). In the double-till system, profits are not reinvested to reduce the level of airport tax and charges are higher than when a single-till system is used. Directive 2009/12/EC currently allows member states to select the till system to be used in their airports. (LT)
