Parliament and CoR fear urban policy will be poor relation of post-2020 regional policy

30/06/2017 (Agence Europe)The European Parliament’s regional development committee and the Committee of the Regions (CoR) commission for territorial cohesion policy took stock on Thursday 29 June of how the Pact of Amsterdam on the urban agenda for the EU is being implemented. They discussed the action plans by the pilot partnerships which are due to be debated among the member states and the local and regional administrations. Discussions were dominated by the presentation of the reflection paper on the future of EU finances (see EUROPE 11818) which would seem to foreshadow sizeable cuts in cohesion policy. Jan Olbrycht (EPP, Poland) highlighted that the urban agenda was mentioned in only one scenario, the only scenario featuring higher contributions from the member states. (PH)
