22/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – In the conclusions they adopted on Thursday evening 22 June (see EUROPE 11813), the European leaders "strongly" reaffirmed the commitment of the EU and its member states to "swiftly and fully" implement the Paris Agreement, to contribute to the fulfilment of the climate finance goals, and to continue to lead in the fight against climate change. The conclusions state that the Paris Agreement is "a key element" for the modernisation of European industry and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The conclusions also promise to increase cooperation with the most vulnerable countries, as a sign of solidarity with future generations. "The EU is sticking to the Paris Agreement. We cannot afford a domino effect following the US decision", Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel stated. (MB)
