22/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW) and the European service workers’ trade union (UNI-Europa), which represents workers in the services sector, organised an action to reject the “services E-card” at the European Parliament on Wednesday 21 June. This action was organised whilst a public hearing on the subject was taking place at the internal market and consumer protection committee (IMCO). The trade unions have concerns that this card will: lead to the return of the country of origin principle initially planned in the services directive; introduce barriers in national level controls; interfere with the on-going negotiations on “posted workers”; encourage the use of “letterbox companies” or even bogus jobs. IndustriAll supports the action. The services card also appears to have created divisions at the Council (see EUROPE 11797). (PH)
