22/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 22 June, the European Commission announced it would grant €85 million to support humanitarian organisations in Uganda deal better with the unprecedented arrival of refugees there. Many of the refugees are from South Sudan, fleeing civil war. Around €65 million of this aid will be used to respond to the most urgent needs (food, shelter, water supply), while the remaining €20 million will be used to support economic development in local communities. Currently with 1.27 million refugees (950,000 from South Sudan, 220,000 from the Democratic Republic of Congo, 37,000 from Burundi and thousands from Somalia), Uganda is the African country hosting most refugees.
