02/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 2 June, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini met the newly elected president of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Riad Seif, in Brussels, as well as the prime minister of the Syrian Interim Government (SIG), Jawad About Hatab. They discussed the practical support the EU could continue giving to the Syrian opposition and to civil society, as well as the additional work that could be done on reconstruction once the parties have succeeded in negotiating a framework for a transitional political agreement. They called on all parties to fully engage in these talks. The three leaders also exchanged views on the EU's work with the SIG to increase resilience through the provision of education, job creation, and support for local civilian governance structures in opposition held areas.
