International conference on African swine fever

02/06/2017 (Agence Europe)An international conference on the spread and control of African swine fever in the EU took place in the Latvian capital Riga on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 June. Health and Food Safety Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis, representatives from the European Commission and the agriculture ministers of a number of EU countries (Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Finland), along with experts from several other countries (Belarus, Georgia, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine) took part in the event. To reduce the risk of spread of the virus, wild boar should be culled and animal owners and hunters should comply with biosecurity requirements. (LC)
