02/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 2 June, the day after US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw his country from the Paris Climate Agreement, organisations representing local and regional authorities, as well as districts and cities, called for their cooperation with their US counterparts on fighting climate change to be continued. Eurocities and the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) did likewise. The Committee of the Regions spoke of the Global Covenant of Mayors as a channel for cooperation between local and regional authorities. On the other side of the Atlantic, the former governor of California and world-famous actor Arnold Schwarzenegger called on local governments and federal states to "rise up and fill the void" left by Trump.
