23/05/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 23 May, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) called on the European Commission to propose specific rules for the transport sector as part of the posting of workers directive. In the IRU's view, it is "unfair to try to discredit the mobility package over details and an artificially constructed debate on road safety or more driving". With the Commission in the process of reflecting on the working conditions that will be applicable to European road hauliers before the presentation of the mobility package on 31 May, the IRU believes that the administrative charges resulting from the existence of different minimum wages mainly penalise small and medium-sized companies. The union is thus calling for a distinction between the needs of passengers and of road hauliers. (LT)
