Commission launches initiative to strengthen migrants' labour market integration

On Tuesday 23 May, the European Commission launched an initiative to provide greater visibility for projects seeking to integrate migrants from third countries into the European labour market. This launch took place at the second meeting on “Dialogue on Skills and Migration”.

The initiative was presented by the respective Commissioners for migration and employment, Dimitris Avramopoulos and Marianne Thyssen. The two Commissioners highlighted the need to promote projects and initiatives that already exist in the private sector and to encourage the sharing of good practices in an effort to increase the number of projects. Mr Avramopoulos explained “We don't want to reinvent the wheel; we want to create a snowball effect”.

As part of this project, the Commission is calling on employers to support the initiative by indicating what they are already doing or intend to do to support integration of refugees and migrants.

Commissioner Thyssen announced that during World Refugee Day on 20 June, she would be launching a “tool” to help develop a ('Skills Profile Tool for Third Country Nationals').

In a press release, the Commission also indicated that the European Social Fund and Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund will be mobilised. This Commission is preparing a call for proposals planned for the second half of 2017.
