18/05/2017 (Agence Europe) – High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini will host a meeting of the Libya Quartet (EU, UN, African Union, League of Arab States) in Brussels on 23 May, according to a press release from the European External Action Service on Thursday 18 May. This will be the second meeting of the Libya Quartet, following up on the meeting hosted by the League of Arab States in Cairo on 18 March 2017 (see EUROPE 11749). The Quartet was previously a Trio, without the EU (see EUROPE 11719). "The objective of the format is to support UN mediation and regional work, and to step up coordination to further advance the political process in Libya in respect of full Libyan ownership" of the process, the EEAS states.
