The proposal to bring in a common consolidated corporate tax base (CCCTB) will indeed be included on the agenda of the meeting of the EU finance ministers on Tuesday 23 May.
This is the conclusion reached by the meeting of Coreper on Wednesday 17 May, at which none of the delegations took the floor. According to our information, the Commission stressed the importance of the 'consolidation' aspect of its proposal. It recommended that the debate focus on the political aspects of the dossier.
For its part, the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the EU hopes to seal a deal on the proposal for a tax dispute resolution mechanism. One of the key issues will be whether the standing committee provided for by the proposal could become a more permanent body. Germany, furthermore, would like a number of duties to be entrusted to the Court of Justice of the EU. A declaration will be annexed to the minutes of the Ecofin meeting, essentially stating that the member states undertake to explore the possibilities provided for by article 273 of the TFEU. EUROPE will return to this. (Original version in French by Élodie Lamer)
