29/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – Switzerland's Minister for the Economy Johann Schneider-Amman will visit the European Commission in Brussels on Thursday 30 March to discuss EU-Switzerland bilateral trade relations and matters of international trade, including the WTO, with European Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström. On a visit to London the next day, Schneider-Amman will meet the British Secretary of State for International Trade, Liam Fox, and his colleague for Agriculture, Andrea Leadsom, to discuss the future commercial relationship between Switzerland and the UK post-Brexit. As part of its Mind the Gap strategy, the Swiss Federal Council wishes to set a replacement regime in place with the UK as soon as possible, particularly for trade issues, the Swiss Department of the Economy explains. Switzerland has very close trade ties with the UK, which was its fifth-largest export market and eighth-largest import market in 2016. (EH)
