29/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 28 March, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) published a short press release appealing for the road transport sector’s interests to be taken into account in the negotiations about to begin on Brexit. The IRU is warning that the United Kingdom’s departure from the EU will indeed have a number of practical repercussions on international road transport. In the IRU's view, the expertise of sector operators will be required on both sides of the English Channel to tackle the “multitude of complicated questions on the table”. The IRU is highlighting the need for clarity, as well as the need for a sufficient transition period, so that operators are able to adapt to the new context. The organisation is adamant that a situation where there is no agreement is not an option. (PH)
