02/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European employers, represented by the organisation BusinessEurope, are in favour of creating a budgetary capacity for the Eurozone or a stabilisation fund to help countries in difficulty. Access to this support would be entirely conditional on the beneficiary state pursuing structural reforms designed to stimulate its economic competitiveness, the organisation states in a letter to the European Commission at the end of February. It also takes a position in favour of a reinforced application of the Stability Pact, with a view to guaranteeing healthy public finances, particularly through reducing government indebtedness, but also to reorientate national policies towards investment. It goes on to state that the scheduled revision of the pact should provide the opportunity to make progress in this area. To support the White Paper on the future of the EU, the Commission will present a reflection document at the end of May on deepening Economic and Monetary Union (see EUROPE 11736). (MB)
