27/02/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 23 February, the European Commission launched a public consultation to improve the protection of passengers in the domain of multimodal transport. The aim is to work out what difficulties passengers have to confront when they use different forms of transport on the same journey (aeroplanes, trains, roads and boats) and assess the impact of the different options envisaged. The Commission points out that passengers currently have different rights according to what mode of transport is used, which makes application of the law difficult when a multimodal journey is undertaken. The public consultation runs from 23 February-25 May 2017. The questionnaire is open to European citizens and tackles questions such as the appropriateness of such an initiative and travel for persons with disabilities. It should be pointed out that the text will not be translated until 1 March next. (PH)
