27/02/2017 (Agence Europe) – When triggering article 50 of the Treaty of the EU next month, the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, may announce that the rights of European citizens to remain in the United Kingdom after this notification may no longer be automatically recognised, The Daily Telegraph reports. According to government sources quoted by The Guardian, however, this deadline will not be the day on which article 50 is activated, which will be sometime around 15 March. However, the date from which Europeans will no longer have automatic rights in the UK will be part of the negotiations on the divorce with the EU. On Monday 27 February, the European Commission declined to comment on this information, stating that it must first of all wait to receive this famous official notice of withdrawal. According to the Daily Telegraph, May is in any event expected to clarify that EU migrants who arrived in the UK before the "deadline" will see their rights protected, whilst British citizens residing elsewhere in Europe will have the same assurances.
