An oral hearing is not necessary during a procedure for subsidiary protection that follows a procedure for seeking asylum

When a person successively requests asylum and subsidiary protection, an oral hearing for that application is not indispensable during the second procedure, according to a decision made by the Court of Justice of the European Union on Thursday 9 February.

This case (C-560/14) involves a Rwandan national whose application for asylum was rejected, along with his request for subsidiary protection. He subsequently lodged a case with the Irish Courts to complain that the country’s authorities...
