31/01/2017 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, has expressed his preference for Bulgaria to appoint a woman to the position of European Commissioner. "I indicated that I would like a Bulgarian lady (…). We have enough men!", he said on Monday 30 January, following a meeting with the new Bulgarian President, Rumen Radev. President Radev appreciates the fact that Juncker has agreed for the matter to be dealt with in May by the Bulgarian government to be set in place following the general elections scheduled for the end of March. The post of Commissioner for Bulgaria has been vacant since Kristalina Georgieva, former Vice-President for the Budget, left at the end of December to join the World Bank. Since Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007, it has always appointed a woman to the post of Commissioner. (MB)
