04/01/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 4 January, the chairperson of the General Council of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the Norwegian ambassador to the WTO Harald Neple, informed WTO countries that no other candidacy had been received for the post of WTO Director-General by 31 December 2016 deadline and that the acting Director-General, Roberto Azevêdo from Brazil, had therefore been the only candidate for this post. Azevêdo has therefore reaffirmed his willingness to carry out a second mandate, as expressed in a letter addressed to WTO members on 3 November 2016. Azevêdo’s current mandate expires on 31 August 2017 (see EUROPE 11661). He has held this post since 1 September 2013. (LC)
