17/11/2016 (Agence Europe) – The Transport & Environment (T&E) non-governmental organisation published a political position on Thursday 17 November in which it calls in which it calls on the European Commission to revise its 2009 regulation on the General Safety Regulation (GSR) as soon as possible. T&E hammers home the fact that "for several years, the Commission has been promising a revision of the completely outmoded general safety regulation, but so far nothing has been put on the table". The NGO points out that there has been a sharp slowdown in the reduction in the number of deaths on the roads, an observation made by the Commission itself (see EUROPE 11629). T&E is calling for the regulation on protecting vulnerable road users (VRUs) to be strengthened. (PH)
