On Wednesday 19 October, the European Commission appointed five people to the new European Fiscal Board that will advise on budget policy at European Union level.
The Board will be chaired by Danish national Niels Thygesen, a professor at Copenhagen University who has been an advisor to the Danish government, worked for the OECD and was a member of the Delors Committee that prepared the broad outline of economic and monetary union in 1988-89.
