10/10/2016 (Agence Europe) – After the air strikes on a building in Sanaa where thousands of people had gathered for a funeral ceremony, the European Union, on Saturday 8 October, urged all parties engaged in the conflict in Yemen to return to the negotiating table. Those responsible for the “horrific” attack, which claimed the lives of more than 140 people and wounded 500 more, “must be identified and held accountable”, said the spokesperson for the European External Action Service in a press release. “But it’s not enough. The parties, the regional and international actors should engage without any further delays to put an end to the war”, the spokesperson added, stating that “the cost of the continued war in Yemen is becoming more and more unbearable”. The spokesperson said that the European Union offers its full support to the efforts of UN Special Envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed to find a political solution. (CG)
