Oceana rebukes Denmark and calls for closure of Baltic cod fishery

Oceana, an NGO active in protecting the world’s oceans and seas, called on Friday 7 October for the EU to introduce a temporary closure of the cod fishery in the western Baltic Sea, where the stock is severely overfished.

Oceana hopes its call will be heard by European fisheries ministers who will gather in Luxembourg on Monday 10 October to set the 2017 total allowable catches (TACs) and quotas for commercial fish stocks of the Baltic Sea (see EUROPE 11640).  The chances of a moratorium...
