On Wednesday 28 September, the budgets committee of the European Parliament took its red pen to the position of the Council of the EU on the draft 2017 budget, adding an extra €4.13 billion on top of the European Commission's initial proposal (see EUROPE 11584).
In voting through the budgetary amendments, the MEPs cancelled the cuts made by the Council in July this year to the credits for next year's budget (see EUROPE 11598).
