06/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 5 September, the European Commission launched a public consultation to improve the social framework of European legislation in the field of road transport. The consultation will run for 14 weeks and close on 11 December. It features two questionnaires: - one is aimed at drivers, operators, haulage companies, freight forwarders and all citizens in general; - the other concerns the authorities with responsibility for road transport, bodies tasked with enforcing the legislation, organisations representing workers and industrial organisations. The consultation will feed into the institution's work to determine the main problems with the rules applicable today and what could be done in the future, as well as to clarify issues related to the principle of subsidiarity. In April of this year, the commissioner for transport, Violeta Bulc, isolated four main fields of work for the future of road transport (see EUROPE 11535). (PH)
