Climate change and adaptation needed

In preparation for the COP 22 climate conference in Marrakesh, 7-18 November 2016, the European Investment Bank (EIB) is holding a conference, “Climate Action in the Mediterranean”, in Rabat on Thursday 8 September.

After the historic agreement reached at Paris COP 21 everyone is now focusing on implementation” and the Rabat conference will look to firm up the specific action that has to be taken in the Mediterranean, says the EIB in a press release.

The meeting will focus on how climate action can contribute to meeting the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the Mediterranean region.  The Bank says: “Accelerating adaptation actions in the Mediterranean region is necessary as climate change is increasingly affecting fundamental aspects such as water availability, food production and the safety and quality of life in urban areas”.  It says it can support implementation of national action plans. The conference, it says, “will highlight the diverse range of available climate financing tools and advisory services available in the region”. The importance of cooperation between public institutions and the private sector for the financing of viable climate projects will be emphasised.  (Original version in French by Fathi B’Chir)
